Hanoi, literally the “city between the rivers”, is the capital and second biggest city of Viet Nam. The historical Old Town, the colonial French Quarter, ancient temples of more than a thousand years of age, and various scenic lakes and landmarks make up one of the most fascinating cities of Southeast Asia, with a mix of Chinese and French influences enriching the vibrant Vietnamese culture.

Highlights

  • Witness how regional ceramic products are made
  • Chat with the local artisans
  • Try making your own ceramic item for your loved one
  • Visit the Hochiminh complex: Independence Square, President Palace, his house, Temple of Literature, Hoa lo Prison to learn more about Vietnamese War history.
  • Walk the 36 streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter
  • Join the locals and shop in the local markets
  • Uncover the history of the Old Quarter of Hanoi
  • Listen as your guide explains the culinary context of the city and hear about the cultural significance of local specialties
  • Have a drink at the train street

08:00 – 08:30: Pick up you from your hotel and head northeast along the left bank of the Red River to Bat Trang Village. The village is surrounded by fertile farmland and is well known for its beautiful ceramics. Bat Trang is filled with wall-to-wall shops selling ancient and modern ceramics. It is not only a booming business, but also a trade that helps to keep traditional crafts alive. Have a chance to chat with the local artisans at work or try sitting behind a potter’s wheel to see how they create ceramic vases and other masterpieces in their kilns. To make products with different shapes, the artisans must perform many processes from choosing clay, drawing, dealing with and mixing additives, forming shapes, heating, and more to finish products. This work needs meticulous and hard-working artisans. The craftsmen will teach us how to make pottery by turning the table. Next, visit the Ceramic Museum

12:00: Leave the village and drive back to Hanoi for Vietnamese lunch . If you are interested in Cuisine in Hanoi you can check out our tour Hanoi Food Walking Tour or regular Hanoi city Tour

Next, we are going to visit Ho Chi Minh complex, you have a chance to see the Hochiminh Mausoleum and walk around the garden to see 2 houses where he lived & worked from 1954 to 1969. Then visit One Pillar  Pagoda which worships the Goddess of Mercy – It is the most unique pagoda in the world. Continue to visit the Temple of Literature – the first university of Vietnam, established in the 11 century. Heading to visit Hoa Lo Prison to learn more about Vietnamese people during the Wars.

17:00: Then back to Train Street for a drink and enjoy the most lively street in Asia.

18:00: Back to Old Quarter , Dating back to the 11th century, the Old Quarter has 36 streets, each named after the commodity traditionally produced and sold on it, such as sugar, bamboo, leather, or silver. Even though some of the streets have had their name changed, many still retain their ancient attributes. Walking through narrow streets to Dong Xuan. Along the edge of the market, dozens of street hawkers sell produce, from live seafood to exotic fruits and spices.  Have Food tour by walking to authentic Vietnam restaurants to try so many different kinds of food as Bun Cha ( Obama had while travelling in Hanoi ), Egg coffee, Vietnam donuts, Pho Hanoi ( the Best beef noodle soup ), Deseart with Black Beans.

Thank you Robert!!! Robert was an amazing guide with so much knowledge about Nimh Binh and the history of Vietnam. This helped us make connections to the creation of the country with what we were physically seeing, ultimately allowing us to appreciate the land. The tour was well balanced with activity and rest, and the local meal was so delicious! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a day trip away from the city 🙂
